I think you will find it difficult to get a solid answer on this, as it depends on what you are wanting out of a career.  I see you mentioned DoD.  If you are willing to go the JAG route, it is fabulous way to start your career.  The DoD is great for training.  There are dozens of career paths.  As a young attorney, I got to prosecute felony level cases.  I also got to do some med mal work, tort investigations, environmental law.  I have friends who had the military pay for their LLM in contracts and labor law.  Plus, you will learn so much about life after a stint in the military.

Another option is INS.  They do a ton of hearings.  Much of it is routine, but at least you are managing a case load and making legal arguments on your feet. 

SSA has been very good to me and my family, but the isolation and lack of client contact can be difficult.

ODAR is great place to start, but do not stay too long, it can ruin a go getter.(Type B vs Type A).
