The Association of Attorney-Advisors is a professional organization of attorneys in Office of Hearings and Appeals. The membership is primarily made up of Attorney-Advisors and Senior Attorney-Advisors, but we also have a number of Group Supervisors, Hearing Office Directors and Administrative Law Judges as associate members. Our newsletter is The Advisor. It is issued several times a year by email.
I hope you will consider joining.

Elections
2012 results
President Jim Hitchcock; Vice President Karen Asard; and Treasurer Eirleen Brown
No one has run for Secretary. We immediately need a volunteer to act in the position as well as nomination(s) for a special election.

Fifteen years of Recognition
Later this year we will celebrate the fifteen anniversary of our status as an Agency recognized professional organization. The Association of Attorney-Advisors was officially recognized by the Social Security Administration by Acting Commissioner Callahan in 1997. A copy of Associate Commissioner Geier’s August 6, 1997 letter confirming that recognition is attached.

The Association Website
The Association website is located at
http://atty-adv.org/. The site contains copies of some past issues of The Advisor, as well as our bylaws and information about the history of the organization. It also contains a public message board forum for “blogging”. (If you really need to vent and blast somebody, please do NOT do it in a public forum.) Hopefully, the website will facilitate more discussion of issues affecting our members. We also hope to include links to writing samples and other reference databases, but need your assistance and input to make it happen.
CLE Seminar and Association meeting
The Social Security Trial Institute is scheduled February 16 – 17, 2012 in Atlanta, at the Georgia State Bar Headquarters 104 Marietta Street, NW. This is a well run and interesting seminar generally pertinent to our work. ICLEGA, the sponsor, gives us a government attorney discount of 20% off the fee (if you ask for it)!
If there is enough demand the Association will have an in person meeting in conjunction with this seminar Thursday evening [February 16] in a hotel to be announced.
Dues
We are collecting membership dues for 2012. Dues for regular members are $10.00 per person and dues for associate member are $7.50 per person. Please send your check, made out to the Association of Attorney-Advisors, to our Treasurer Eirleen Brown 107 Blackbeard Dr.
Slidell, LA. 70461. Please submit your dues promptly. The organization has some significant expenses in maintaining the website, etc.
Article Submissions
Pursuant to AAA bylaws, any member can submit an article for inclusion in the newsletter. Anyone interested in submitting their own article in future newsletters can contact an officer. Please remember, The Advisor is a publication of general circulation. If you flame someone in The Advisor, it will almost certainly be seen by that person as well as a number of management officials.
