SSA hiring

I interviewed with an ODAR office in December, but I was told that at the time of the interview, they were under a hiring freeze.  I recently emailed the HOD, who told me that they were still under the hiring restraints, but that they would have hiring authority very soon. I thought most offices were hiring now. Anyone have any insight?  Thanks

They are hiring now. They started hiring once the budget was approved.

My office has hired two attorneys in the last six months (one last month). I will be leaving the agency in June, so my slot will be open for sure.

My office has two attorneys starting end of this month.

They were interviewed several months ago.  I know ODAR was expecting funding and local managers were given an idea of what positions they might be able to hire for (attorneys, clerical staff, receptionists).  In those cases, managers are sometimes told to gather resumes and be ready to fill slots, should they become available.  It seems odd they could do interviews without having hiring authority at the time, but when they get the word they can fill slots sometimes they have less than a week and if they don't fill a slot, it gets taken away and given to another office.  Very awkward system.

Thanks for the replies.  This was for a position in a chicago, il office.  I would think that they would have received some authority by now since the budget has passed.
