I received a call for an interview last week and had my interview a few days later at the local hearing office.  ALJ judge even came in during the interview and had a chat with me.  It all was surprisingly civil and relaxed.

At the end of the interview, I was asked if I could get some paperwork returned by the next day and that it was important that it be done asap.  It was mentioned that it wasn't a job offer but that they liked to have the paperwork in hand, should I be hired...a decision to be made by the regional office.

The envelope had the background waiver form, fingerprint cards, w-4's, health insurance selection form along with the generic federal job application form.

I had everything filled out and returned by the next morning as requested.

Job is supposed to start at the end of June.

Am I being overly optimistic in assuming that I will most likely be hired or is this standard procedure?

Thanks

I don't think that they would have had you fill out all the paperwork that  will go to the regional office if they weren't interested.  The procedure, as I understand it, is that the HO sends his/her selections to the regional office and once the regional office has run your fingerprints, etc., they will call  you and officially extend an offer.

You are hired! That is not standard procedure. They did all of that to me right before I received an official offer.

That's good to know since my current position is most likely going to be eliminated in the next county budget in July.  Just waiting for that phone call.

Called the local HO to see what the status was and I was told that there were 3 positions and 3 people were hired.  I was a bit disappointed to say the least, especially after being given all the hiring paperwork.

There might be 4th position and I was told that they will fill that in the standing order of qualified candidates on their registry.  If that happens, that will be done in 10-14 days.

Oh well.
