I am applying to a regional office for an attorney advisor position. I have documentation stating that I passed the bar exam and met all of the requirements to be certified for admission to the bar. Unfortunately because of a family emergency I was unable to attend the November 5th swearing in.....the posting closes on November 19th and says that to be qualified an applicant must be admitted to state bar by closing date. Will I be okay?

In light of how literal-minded our personnel folks seem to be, I'd suggest to do everything possible to get sworn in before the 19th.  You have swear that everything on the app is true.  Without being sworn, in you haven't been admitted.

I apologize for the delayed response, I never received an e-mail notifying me that a reply to my comment had been made!

Update:

On Monday November 16th I was informed by HR personnel that I did need to be sworn in. I frantically made phone calls and e-mails all day long along with the help of some very good and dedicated friends who made calls on my behalf. By that afternoon I had two Federal District Judges here in Michigan and one Supreme Court Judge in Illinois all agreeing to swear me in (I currently live in MI but passed the IL bar exam). On Tuesday morning I was sworn in and received the letter of good standing Wednesday morning, I overnighted my application to HR and got it in by the deadline of November 19th! Whew it was a bit crazy there for a few days. I'm still waiting to hear from HR that I passed the initial screening (simple formality, I don't anticipate any problems). I guess now it is just a waiting game and brushing up on my interviewing skills!
